Dr. Lu Wei is a Professor and Associate Dean in the College of Media and International Culture, and the Director of the Institute of Journalism at Zhejiang University. He earned his Ph.D. in communication from Washington State University in 2007. Before joining ZJU, he taught at Huazhong University of Science & Technology, Washington State University, and University of Rhode Island as lecturer, teaching assistant, and assistant professor respectively. He is the recipient of the National Association Award of Outstanding Young Scholars, First Prize of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zhejiang Province, and the Zhejiang Youth Medal for Outstanding Achievement. His research interests include new media technologies, political communication and international communication. Dr. Wei has been the principal investigator for a number of national and provincial research grants, including “The visualization of global information and communication landscape”, “The image of China in the big data era”, “Weibo mobilization and collective action”, etc. He has published articles in Journal of Computer Mediated Communication, Mass Communication and Society, Information Research, Telematics and Informatics, Newspaper Research Journal, The Chinese Journal of Communication and Society, etc. He serves as the managing editor of Communication and the Public, and an editorial board member of Journalism & Mass Communication Quarterly. Dr. Wei is currently the Vice President of China New Media Communication Association, the Secretary-General of China Global Communication and Public Diplomacy, and the Associate Director of Public Opinion Research Committee of China Risk Management Association.
